I bought 3600 Dumaine in 1987 and lived there for 10 years, gently restoring this wonderful house. I moved to Philadelphia in June 1997. I am glad to see the house survived Katrina, but sad to see her looking so bad. I hope she looks better now. A lot of life and love went on in that house and I hope it will again. Thanks for the photo.
The magnets and images on this blog were collected from the faces of discarded New Orleans refrigerators between October of 2005 and the Spring of 2006. I did not have the owners' permission to take these objects. They were discarded, but I imagine that in many cases, they were not discarded by the magnets' owners. I can only hope that this project tells a story worthy of their loss.
This is not an ideal forum for viewing this objects and images. I am actively searching for a better "home" for their display--ideally an exhibit of Katrina-related ephemera. If you know of any such exhibit, please comment.
